Top 5 Tips For A Successful Career in Makeup from Ashunta Sheriff -  Cookie's Makeup Artist!

Ashunta Sherif has worked with celebrities like Alicia Keys, P Didiy and Taraji P Henson to name a few

  • Show up to work dressed like you are there to work. Don't show up all dressed up like you are trying to show up your client especially when you are working with women. This is something I've done myself from day 1 and I've notice that many MUAs don't do it. I just don't think you look professional when you show up to a job in a dress sweeping the ground behind you...
  • Working with celebrities requires a level of humility. If you have a big ego, celebrity makeup is not for you! I think this is true for being a service provider period. The customer is always right...even she she has pin thin brows and is asking that you groom her brows to make them like Audrey Hepburn brows (OK maybe I took that one too far LOL)
  • Always do your best at work because you never know who is watching. After working on set on several models at a time doing a million things at once she got a call from P.Diddy's team to work for him. He was on set for just a few minutes but clearly noticed how hard she worked to get the job done and wanted that attitude on his team! She went on to work with P.Diddy for 5 years.

  • Some times your work will call for a sacrifice...do it! To start working with P.Diddy she had to spend over $1100 on specific products that were requested. Obviously the investment paid off.
  • Save 1/4 of every check.

Final word
Keep positive and don't give up

I learnt a lot form this keynote. Ashunta is hilarious and I especially love how real and open she was, she didn't hold back.
